To commemorate and honor the heroes who participated in various acts of resistance, civil disobedience, and rebellion, we will recall their actions. August is a month full of history for members of the African diaspora. A major theme of Black August is resistance. We will highlight the birthday of the honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, born August 17, 1887, by recalling his life work and contributions to the ongoing struggle for freedom and equality for brown-skinned people worldwide. His life endeavors certainly uplift ideals of Black August.
