Join us for a beginner's calligraphy class taught by Elinor Holland. For the first 3 weeks, we will start with an early historic hand. Uncial is an early book hand, most popular for writing bibles and prayer books from the third to the eighth century. Although it is an "ancient" style, it played a pivotal role in the history of writing and has its own subtle beauty due to its unique texture with many thick strokes. After Uncial we will engage in the medieval hand Blackletter, also known as Gothic. Is a bold hand that has many variations through history. Used in books and illuminated manuscripts, it has many applications and is not as hard as it looks!
