LET THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL KNOW -- LIBRARIES ARE ESSENTIAL FOR NYC’S RECOVERY!

For 126 years, Queens Public Library has supported and strengthened this incredible borough and our city, offering books, classes, workshops and so much more to help people be successful in their lives, no matter their background or circumstances.

The past two years have been full of uncertainty, but despite all the challenges we have faced, the Library has been here for our communities every step of the way.

As the five boroughs continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we know Queens residents are counting on QPL to help build a more equitable city. Providing free, high quality and reliable sources of information is essential to this effort.

We recently resumed indoor programming, which will gradually expand as public health conditions continue to improve. We will also continue our virtual programming, an essential resource throughout the pandemic, including children’s story hour, ESOL classes, resume development, health and wellness programs, and social justice workshops.

In the past year, the Library has also been a reliable partner to the City in combatting the coronavirus, offering free COVID-19 testing, vaccinations and test kits to make sure New Yorkers stay safe.

We are asking the City for a funding increase in Fiscal Year 2023 to ensure we continue to advance our mission, support our collections, help keep our buildings in a state of good repair, and meet the anticipated increase in demand for our services as the pandemic recedes.

Let the Mayor and your Council Member know that your QPL branch is essential by completing the form below to send them an email (it only takes a minute!). Your email will remind our city leaders of the indispensable role libraries play in our neighborhoods, and the importance of preserving funding for libraries in the upcoming city budget.
