Queens Public Library’s career-focused English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs help participants develop the language and workplace skills needed to succeed in their careers.
Courses are available as semester-long classes.
Participants will:
- Build career-specific English vocabulary
- Obtain program-specific certifications
- Create professional résumés and cover letters
- Feel more comfortable communicating in interviews and on the job
- Be able to make suggestions and communicate better with supervisors and peers
- Understand workplace safety procedures
- Explore career pathways and employment opportunities
- Develop the professional skills needed to find and maintain employment
Current Training Programs
Home Health Aide
Learn healthcare vocabulary, patient-care skills, workplace safety, and professional communication. Receive training to become a certified Home Health Aide and prepare for roles assisting clients with daily activities in their homes or care settings.
Childcare
Learn childcare vocabulary, child safety, basic child development, and how to communicate with children, families, and coworkers. Receive training for roles such as childcare assistants, daycare workers, and classroom aides.
Hospitality (Guestroom Attendant and Restaurant Server)
Develop customer-service, workplace communication, safety, and hospitality skills. Prepares participants for roles such as guestroom attendants or restaurant servers in hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality settings.
