What is Mail-A-Book?

If you can't visit the Library because of age or disability, we can bring the Library to you!

Queens Public Library’s Mail-A-Book program is an award-winning outreach service that enables our homebound customers to borrow library materials without leaving their homes or care facilities.

Library materials are delivered to these customers at home, free of charge, through the U.S. Postal Service in reusable, zippered canvas bags. Return postage is included.

Mail-A-Book materials include hardcover and paperback books for adults, teens, and children (in large print, regular print, and audio formats), DVDs and CDs, and books and materials in several languages.

Rotating collections of library materials are also available via Mail-A-Book for nursing homes, senior centers, and other long-term-care facilities located in Queens.

Our Mail-A-Book team also provides reference and readers advisory services for eligible customers.

Mail-A-Book is available to homebound and disabled seniors, children, teens, and adults who live, work, or own property in New York State. Caregivers and family members may also be eligible for membership.

Mail-A-Book's 50th Birthday!

In November 1975, the federal government provided funds to the Queens Borough Public Library for a new service that would mail books to homebound readers in returnable, postage-paid book bags.

Fifty years later, our team at Mail-A-Book has not only maintained that service, but helped expand our operations, to meet every reader where they are!

Help us celebrate Mail-A-Book's 50th anniversary — share the details about Mail-A-Book with the people in your life who would benefit greatly from it.

Our Mail-A-Book team thanks you for your continued support of their work!
