Celebrate Arab American Heritage Month with our next Sunday Concert at Central Library! Zikrayat is an Arab music and dance ensemble dedicated to the classical traditions of Egypt, Lebanon, and the greater Arab World. Alternating vocal and instrumental numbers with dance, the ensemble aims to highlight the diversity of Arab culture for Western audiences in an authentic yet entertaining way. Led by violinist, composer, and teacher Sami Abu Shumays and Egyptian-style dancer Robin “Dameshe” Shumays, Zikrayat has performed at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Joe’s Pub, Galapagos Art Space, Le Poisson Rouge, Alwan for the Arts, NYU, the CUNY Graduate Center, the American Folk Festival (Bangor, ME), the Lowell Folk Festival (Lowell, MA), and the Global Film and Music Festival at William & Mary College (Williamsburg, VA).
