Creative Aging: Frame Drumming 101

In this in-person series for people ages 50 and up, attendees will use frame drums to explore the basics of rhythm, musicality, and style. Drums are one of the oldest instruments and can be heard in music from throughout the world. As we develop our drum skills, we'll also explore the rich history of the percussive arts. The frame drum is easy to pick up and can be practiced for a lifetime. There are no prerequisites for this course - anyone is welcome. All drums and musical materials will be provided. By the end of the four two-hour sessions, participants will be able to read rhythmic notation, produce a variety of tones, groove, and improvise. Please call the Glen Oaks Library at 718-831-8636 to preregister. This program is made possible by the generous support of New York State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky.
