Juneteenth: Herstory in Motion: Honoring Dr. Opal Lee (Conversation and Film Screening)

Dr. Opal Lee is known as "The Grandmother of Juneteenth" because her activism helped Juneteenth become a federal holiday. Ms. Opal will also celebrate her 100th birthday this October! Don't miss this special conversation with Dione Sims, the granddaughter of Dr. Opal Lee, and filmmaker Laura Williams, who will show us the trailer for the documentary she is creating about the life and legacy of Opal Lee. Hear inspiring stories about Dr. Opal Lee and the women continuing the fight for freedom. Our first 50 attendees will also receive a free book about Dr. Opal Lee! This family-friendly program will be hosted by QPL President and CEO Dennis M. Walcott, and will also include a performance by Batingua Arts, an Afro-Caribbean dance and drum company. We hope you will join us!
