Japanese koto / shamisen performer Yoko Reikano Kimura and cellist Hikaru Tamaki have been collaborating for nearly fifteen years under the moniker of Duo YUMENO, exploring the dialogue between traditional Japanese and contemporary world music to create a singular voice that reflects their experience living both in Queens and Japan. For this lecture demonstration, the duo will give a musical tour of the two worlds and celebrate the diverse traditions of the holiday season by performing repertoire from classical Japanese koto-song music of the 18th century to commissioned pieces composed for the duo by living composers.
