The Citizen Preparedness Corps, launched in 2014, is an emergency preparedness program that equips residents with the knowledge and tools to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters as swiftly as possible. New York National Guard Service Members, in collaboration with experts from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) and local emergency management personnel, conduct classes statewide. Developed by DHSES, the program covers a wide range of topics, including creating a family emergency plan, responding to active shooter situations, gathering essential emergency supplies, and signing up for NY-Alert, the state's free emergency alert system.
