Please note: the Queens Connected Mobile Hotspot Lending Program has ended. If you need help with Internet access at home, Lifeline is a federal program that gives eligible low-income consumers discounts on qualifying broadband Internet service. Learn more about Lifeline here.

Do you need to borrow an electronic device that can help you connect to the Internet, perform basic computing tasks, and more?

We lend Microsoft Surface laptops and Hyundai tablets to library card holders for free.

Laptop Lending Program

Microsoft Surface laptops can be checked out for 2 months, with up to 5 additional renewals.

To participate in this program, you must:

  • Have a valid Queens Public Library card and be at least 18 years old
  • Have a valid photo ID
  • Have no outstanding fees

First-time borrowers must sign a borrower’s agreement.

Children under 17 may borrow with a parent or guardian’s consent.

There is a limit of one laptop per household.

Laptops are camera and microphone enabled and can access the Internet through a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection.

Laptops come with several software programs and applications already installed, including Microsoft Office 2019 and the Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox web browsers.

Users will not be able to install any programs and applications themselves due to security restrictions.

Users must save their documents and files to a USB flash drive or to cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, etc.); any files saved on a laptop will be lost once users log off or restart the computer.

This program is made possible thanks to support from Sterling National Bank.
