Learn English

Queens Library's Adult Learner Program offers classes to learn English.

Basic Computer Skills

Queens Library's Cyber Center (located at the Central Library) offers basic instruction on computers. The classes currently offered are:

  • Introduction to Computers
  • Introduction to Excel
  • Introduction to Word
  • PowerPoint for Beginners
  • Introduction to Email
  • Introduction to the Internet
  • Jobs Online
  • Computers for Seniors

Please call 718-990-0779 for a current schedule of classes. Space is limited and pre-registration is required in person at the Cyber Center Reference Desk.

Computer Classes

Introduction to Computers

  • A basic introductory workshop on how to use a standard model PC with a generic Windows operating system.
  • Introduction to Internet is a workshop on how to utilize resources of the internet.

InfoLinQ & Databases

International Resource Center

The International Resource Center (IRC) provides free training classes to customers who need to learn how to search the library's catalog and databases, and how to find information in the Internet. The training classes are conducted in several languages. Customers can either come to the IRC's reference desk or call 718-661-1229 to register for these classes.

Other Topics

Career Exploration Inventory (CEI)

A self-scored career interest evaluation for adults, the Career Exploration Inventory (CEI), can help you select from a variety of careers. It is administered to groups on a regular basis. You must call to register. The CEI is offered as a service by Queens Library's Job Information Centers.

Adult Learner Program

There are about 100 English for Speaker of Other Languages (ESOL) classes offered each year at 28 locations throughout the Queens Library System. Classes are conducted by trained and experienced teachers at various Libraries. ESOL Program staff provides teacher training and support, curricula, and materials.
