Volunteer My time
The Queens Library has borough-wide volunteer opportunities. We currently have over 1100 volunteers who share their knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm, energy and ideas throughout the borough.
Volunteers assist staff in many areas such as tutoring adults in literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), working in the Gift Shop, or being Gallery Docents. Queens Library volunteers also assist library staff with book sales, programs, sending out mass mailings, shelving books, creating databases and daily branch operations.
Volunteers do what they do because they love it, and because they want to. There are no minimum service hours required for most positions.
Our staff members welcome our volunteers.
We obtain volunteers from many sources. We have retired staff members, students who need volunteer credit to fulfill service credit - both on the high school and college level; retired customers who want to keep busy and people for a variety of reasons who want to transition back into the workforce. We provide training and support to volunteers from all walks of life.
Each year a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony and luncheon is held to honor our entire Volunteer Corps.
