Welcome to Queens Library's eMedia center where you can download books, videos, music and audiobooks. Spanish, Russian, or Chinese newspaper and magazines are also available.

eMedia are downloadable to a personal computer and pocket PCs, PDAs, portable media centers, and devices running Windows Mobile 5.0; some are readable online which do not require downloading. You will need a valid library card and PIN. A hi-speed internet connection is recommended. This may be downloaded from home or office but not the library computers.

eAudiobooks eMusic eVideo eBooks


Digital books are the digital versions of print books, and include downloadable audio books for listening and eBooks for on-screen reading. Both digital audio books and eBooks can be used on a variety of devices such as PCs, laptops, and supported PDAs. This site offers digital audio books in the OverDrive Media Console™ format, and eBooks in the Adobe® Reader® and Mobipocket Reader formats. To access digital books at Queens Library, you will need:

 

  • A valid library card
  • Brief access to the Internet
  • Free software for the device on which you wish to use your digital book

Please note that digital books can be enjoyed at home, at work, or when you travel, but are not for use on the computers in the library. For a list of incompatible devices, click here.

Chinese Language eBooks

Welcome to our new Chinese eBook service. Although Chinese language eBooks may not be read online or downloaded to library PC’s, they may be read from any other internet-enabled PC by downloading the Apabi reader and entering a valid Library Card ID#. Just point your browser to http://qbpl.lib.apabi.com and take your pick of more than 6,000 items on topics like politics, literature, economics, education etc. You can download up to 10 books at a time and keep them for 7days. And since they are returned automatically, you never have to worry about late fees!


Chinese Language E-Magazines

E-magazines' collection covers topics such as current issues, politics, financial management, arts, entertainment, modern literature, education, family life, general sciences, medicine and health, women's issues, etc. There is no need to register for this service. You can access the collection directly at http://qbpl.vip.qikan.com.cn (available in Chinese language only) or clicking on the logo above. If you prefer to read magazines remotely, you will have to enter your Queens Library card number.


Russian e-books

Electronic books - a new technology now available to our readers. Access to more than 5,000 information sources in the Russian, English and Ukrainian languages updated daily, on Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic countries. Includes states and regional magazines and newspapers; news archives; official government documents; statistical information; biographies, and texts of more than 1,000 books by Russian classic and contemporary authors. TumbleBooks (e-books for kids)

TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you*. There are even books in French and Spanish! Just click on the TumbleBooks icon and you are in; a username and password are not required!

All you need is the Flash plug-in which is preloaded on all library computers and most home computers. If you are unable to view the TumbleBooks at home, you can download the plug-in for FREE at www.macromedia.com/downloads

In addition to the books, the collection includes games and puzzles which can only be accessed remotely. Games and puzzles are not accessible from library computers.

* If you want to listen to sound, music and narration in the library, you must bring your own headphones. A librarian will show you where to plug it in.

Tumble Talking Books

TumbleTalkingBooks are an online collection of full length audio books which you can listen to from any computer with an internet connection. Browse through the categories and pick the book you want to listen to.   You don’t need any special software or listening devices. There’s nothing to download and you can listen to as many books as many times as you like. Your library is providing you with UNLIMITED remote access. There are no waiting lists, check out lines, or return dates. The books are always available to you- 24/7.

Tumble Readables Books

TumbleReadables are a collection of large print electronic books which allows you to read books online by simply clicking a button.

The collection includes Classics like War and Peace, David Copperfield, Robinson Crusoe, Fiction like The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, Sophies Choice by William Styron, and Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut , Non Fiction such as Winson Churchill's Their Finest Hour , and children's chapter books, YA novels, High Interest/Low Level books and classic tales. 

Google Print

Google, one of the Internet's leading search engines now offers an online collection of books and government documents.

The collection of primarily public domain works include Henry James novels, Civil War histories, Congressional acts and biographies of famous New Yorkers and more. Click here to access the Google Print collection.
